Viltrox has launched its latest addition to the Z-mount lineup, the AF 135mm F1.8 LAB Z Lens. It’s designed as a flagship-level telephoto prime, and Viltrox promises ultra-flagship image quality with exceptional sharpness, autofocus performance, and build quality. This all adds up to make it a compelling choice for portrait and low-light photography.
The AF 135mm F1.8 LAB Z is a full-frame lens with a bright f/1.8 to f/16 aperture range, making it ideal for capturing stunning portraits with creamy bokeh and excellent subject isolation. Its 135mm focal length is a favourite among portrait photographers for its natural compression and ability to flatter subjects, while the f/1.8 large aperture ensures exceptional performance in low-light conditions.

Autofocus Mechanism
At the heart of the lens is the Viltrox Quad HyperVCM motor (Voice Coil Motor) focusing mechanism, which Viltrox claims is 150% faster than traditional STM motors. This efficient control system ensures quick, quiet, and accurate autofocus, whether you’re shooting stills or video. The lens also minimizes focus breathing, a feature that videographers will appreciate, as it allows for smoother transitions and more consistent framing during shoots.

Optical Excellence
Viltrox has packed the AF 135mm F1.8 LAB Z with a sophisticated optical design to ensure top-tier image quality. The lens features 14 elements in 9 groups, including two high refractive index lenses and four extra-low dispersion lenses. This combination effectively reduces distortion and chromatic aberration while enhancing contrast and colour accuracy.
The lens also boasts a 2.4-foot minimum focusing distance, allowing photographers to capture detailed close-up shots. The 11-blade diaphragm works in tandem with the f/1.8 aperture to produce smooth, circular bokeh, even in challenging lighting conditions. Whether you’re shooting portraits, wildlife, or events, this lens is designed to deliver stunning results.

Built to Last
Durability is a key focus for Viltrox, and the AF 135mm F1.8 LAB Z is no exception. The lens features a dust- and splash-resistant construction, protecting its internal components from the elements. The front lens element is coated with a water- and stain-resistant layer, making it easy to clean and resistant to fingerprints.
The lens barrel is crafted from magnesium-aluminium alloy, which makes it lightweight yet robust and able to withstand minor impacts. This makes it a reliable choice for photographers who frequently shoot in demanding environments.

Extra Features
The lens barrel is equipped with customizable Fn buttons, a multi-function ring, and a focus limiter, giving photographers quick access to their preferred settings. Additionally, the lens includes a USB-C port for seamless firmware updates, ensuring it stays up-to-date with the latest improvements.
For those who use filters, the lens has an 82mm filter thread, offering wide compatibility with popular lens accessories.
