A week ago the IMI show in Thailand ended and it was quite a ride. It’s the first time that a show like this is produced in Thailand, so it was quite exciting. With NAB right around the corner, many brands are already providing previews on unannounced gear to gauge the waters. This was a great opportunity for us to see some new gear before it get to the public. and we are sharing this with you.
We got to wander the floor and meet with some of our favorite brands. Here is a quick rundown of what we found. As I mentioned a lot fo this gear will only be announced in a month ort so.
Yongnuo 150Watt light is just $89
It’s great to see that Yongnuo is not only making flashes but also beefing up its 150 Watts of light for $89. This is a fantastic value for a bicolor light. If you’re curious, check the yn150 on their website
Hohem iSteady M7 gimbal
The Hohem iSteady M7 gimbal (see more here) has its own camera, so you don’t have to use an app to control it
The Viltrox 35mm f/1.2 has a built-in LCD and A/B focus pulling points
I think this is the first time I am seeing a lens maker making an LCD on a lens that actually makes sense.
The Falcam move is like a gimbal for your light
This was my favorite show by far! It is a gimbal that can attach to any light, and add remote control movement for it.
Nanlite Rapid parabolic
I just love how softboxes are becoming faster to deploy and collapse, but this is out of this world…
NiceFoto softbox with built in LEDs.
and on the same note, NiceFoto has an umbrella with built-in LEDs so you don’t need an external COB:
If you liked Dedolights, you’re going to love this
I recall when dedolights were huge in lighting. This is Godox’s take on the same system. the MS60R is a 2/4 light set that is compatible with all Dedo accesories.
First look at the OneGo 2 bag from PGYTECH
I am falling in love with all bags PGYTECH, and the OneGo 2 is no exception. If you are into huge bags with loads of capacity, this is a no brainer.
PMI Gear adds bubbles to their smoke machine kit
I have to admit, seeing those bubbles in person was amazing! We have seen four new Smoke Machines in IMI, but PMI’s Smoke Ninja was definitely on the top.
7Artisan infinite Cine set
Typically, when a new brand makes a cine set, they will drop a lens or two at the time, taking a full year to complete a set. I have to take my hat off for 7Artisan for dropping a full set on day one! (It’s not the first time they are kicking a$$ either).
New FXLion brick batteries
OK, 550 WH is a lot of battery. You need two of those to run some thing like an Aputure 600, and a couple of those will last almost two hours. Question is, how long can you hold them.
Conclusion
This was the first-ever IMI show, and I hope there will be more. It’s a great chance to get a sneak peek at what’s coming to NAB well ahead of regular programming. to learn more about IMI, visit their website.
