I think that spring is the most beautiful season there is. It inspires me to take photos and to go outside more, and I believe it inspires you, too. This is the season full of photographic opportunities, and in this video, Toma Bonciu shares some ideas to make you even more creative when you go outside to shoot.

1. Fog in the forest

If you want to take some moody shots with fog, spring is the perfect time to do it. The morning fog is very common in spring, so go to the forest, bring your camera and tripod, and shot away.

2. Foggy landscapes

While we’re at fog, it also looks magical in landscapes, especially when combined with mountains. So, Toma suggests going into the mountains, and to make sure you’ll have fog – shoot early in the morning.

3. Plants

After a long winter, seeing the first plants feels simply magical. Capture this magic with your camera, and Toma suggests shooting into the light to emphasize it even more.

4. Sunrise

Another idea is to choose a sunrise to go out and shoot. The morning light looks beautiful in landscapes, and that morning fog we mentioned before can also add a new dimension to your photos.

5. Flowers

For me, spring is all about flowers. I love photographing them, and I can never get enough. Toma suggests getting low and photographing flowers in the grass. The idea is to keep it simple: make a single flower your subject, so it stands out against the green grass.

6. The countryside

When the trees blossom in the spring, they make landscapes look more colorful and interesting. So, go to the countryside and capture these scenic spring landscapes.

7. Sunsets

Just like the sunrise, the sunset also looks wonderful in spring, with all those trees in bloom. So use this lighting and create some magical shots.

8. Unusual nature elements

Other than beautiful flowers and tree blossoms, spring offers some quirky plants, too. For example, blooming moss looks weirdly beautiful. Take a good look around, and go macro.

9. Two seasons in one photo

While in spring it’s warmer outside and everything blooms, high mountains are usually still covered with snow. If you’re planning a trip to the mountains, don’t miss to include two seasons in a single image.

10. Hills and valleys

Another tip Toma shares is to go to the countryside where there are hills and valleys. They look absolutely magical in the spring.

11. Light and smoke

In spring, it can still be cold during night. In the countryside you can see smoke coming out of chimneys, and paired with the morning light, it can give you some fantastic photographic opportunities.

12. Painting-style

The last idea is to make your photos look like paintings. Foggy and cloudy days can help you get this effect, and you can shoot at longer exposures to get soft, milky clouds.

For us in the Northern hemisphere, the spring is now in full swing. So, go out, enjoy nature and take some wonderful shots!
