Have you ever been guilty of living up to the cliché of being a filmmaker? This long short by IFTH lists the 32 rules of becoming a filmmaker. The name is a bit misleading though, I would consider renaming it The 32 Most Annoying Clichés About Filmmakers. Sadly I am probably guilty on all 32.

Here are some of the more annoying ones:

Step 1: Buy a camera, wait 6 months till camera is obsolete, buy a new camera. Repeat

Step 2: Buy a lens, buy more lenses, sell and buy prime lenses, sell and buy Cine lenses.

Step 3: Can’t afford brand name gear? do It Yourself!

Step 4: what are you making fun of DIY gear??? This is it, I am done with this film! (no really watch it till the end, it is hilarious)

When I started, I doubted I would watch all 7 min of a spoof… and then I was at #32… :) I haven’t done video for a decade, but I am guilty of more of these than I should admit…
