Canon has unveiled the PowerShot V1, a new compact digital camera designed to meet the demands of modern content creators. Building on the success of its predecessor, the PowerShot V10, the V1 offers improved video and still-image capabilities while still keeping the original small size and light weight.
The camera is packed with features that cater to both amateur and professional creators, making it a versatile tool for a variety of shooting scenarios.
Key Features of the Powershot V1
The PowerShot V1 is equipped with a 22MP 1.4-inch CMOS sensor, which is approximately twice the size of conventional 1.0-type sensors. This larger sensor is designed to deliver better image quality and improved sensitivity, particularly in low-light conditions. The camera features a 16-50mm equivalent f/2.8-4.5 zoom lens, providing flexibility for everything from wide-angle group shots to closer vlogging frames.
For video creators, the V1 supports full-width 4K video recording at 30p, with the option to shoot 4K at 60p using a 1.4x crop. The camera also includes 10-bit recording and Canon Log 3, which aim to provide greater colour depth and post-production flexibility. Additionally, the V1 is equipped with optical stabilization and a three-stop ND filter, helping to reduce camera shake and manage exposure in bright conditions.
One of the standout features of the V1 is its active cooling system, which allows for extended recording times. Canon claims that the camera can record continuously for over two hours in 4K/60p without overheating, making it suitable for long shooting sessions.

Autofocus and Usability
The PowerShot V1 incorporates Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF II technology, which promises fast and accurate autofocus performance. This system is particularly useful for tracking moving subjects, making the camera a solid choice for vloggers and creators who need reliable focus during dynamic shoots.
The camera also features a 3-inch, 1.04m-dot articulating touchscreen, which can be adjusted to various angles for easier framing and composition. This touchscreen interface is designed to be intuitive, allowing users to quickly navigate settings and capture shots from creative perspectives.

Connectivity and Additional Features
The V1 offers comprehensive connectivity options, including Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and USB-C. These features enable seamless content sharing, remote control via the Canon Connect app, and the ability to use the camera as a USB webcam. For creators who need to expand their setup, the camera includes a multi-function hot shoe for attaching compatible accessories like external microphones or lights.
Other notable features include customizable video “moods” for applying preset aesthetics, a product demo mode for easy focus shifting during product showcases, and up to 30 fps continuous shooting for capturing fast-moving subjects. The camera also includes a mic input and headphone output, catering to creators who need high-quality audio recording and monitoring.
Price and Availability
There’s no information yet on the release date or price for the USA market, although the Canon Japan site states a mid-April release in that part of the world at a price of $990.
