Leica’s Lux Grip: The $329 Way to Make your Phone Photography Fancier

Leica has just unveiled the LUX Grip, a premium accessory designed to elevate iPhone photography—because, apparently, your smartphone camera isn’t expensive enough yet. Priced at $329, this high-end phone grip aims to bring Leica’s signature handling and precision to the palm of your hand. But the real question is: do we need another phone grip?
Leica is marketing the LUX Grip as the ultimate tool for those who take mobile photography seriously. The company claims it offers “perfect ergonomics, high-quality materials, and intuitive design”, bringing back the feel of a classic camera.
The grip attaches to iPhones (12 and later) via MagSafe, meaning no clunky clamps or screws. It comes with a mechanical two-stage shutter button, a precision settings dial, and even two programmable function buttons—because if you’re paying Leica prices, you deserve more buttons than the average smartphone photographer.
Leica also throws in a one-year subscription to the PRO version of the Leica LUX app, which lets you mimic the legendary Summilux-M and Noctilux-M lenses. With it, you get full control over exposure, ISO, and shutter speed—just in case Apple’s built-in camera software doesn’t cut it.
Key features of the Leica LUX Grip
- MagSafe attachment (for iPhone 12 and later)
- Two-stage shutter button for that DSLR feel
- Two programmable function buttons
- Precision dial for manual settings
- Bluetooth connection
- Modular design (future-proof for iPhone upgrades)
- Battery life: good for up to 1,000 photos
- Fast charging: 2 hours via USB-C
- Weight: 4.59 oz

A luxury or a necessity?
Now, let’s be real. The LUX Grip isn’t for everyone. If you’re snapping pics of your dog or taking selfies at brunch, this might be overkill. But if you love Leica’s aesthetics and want that “professional feel” while shooting on an iPhone, it could be tempting.
Still, $329 is a lot—especially when you can buy an actual compact camera for that price. So, if you’re looking to add some Leica prestige (and weight) to your smartphone, the LUX Grip is here. But for the rest of us? Maybe we’ll just stick to holding our phones the old-fashioned way. For free.
